Weigh in Monday - 11/29/10

After last weeks gain, it seems like I'm on the gain train. With Thanksgiving's big meals (My parent's, Ryan's mom's and our Friendsgiving on Sunday) I went WAY over in points and exercised only one day for 2 measly points.

BUT somehow I lost .2lbs - WHAAA? Whaaa indeed. How the heck did that happen?

Last week it was too much food and not enough moving. I'm going to Nightclub Cardio on Wednesday and then working out with Mandy, so this week will be a healthy one!

I'm ready to get back on track this week. Weight Watchers came out with a new program today and it seems like just the motivation I need to start losing again. I'm also considering moving my weigh in day to Wednesday or Thursday so that the weekends won't kill my efforts.

Today's weight loss was: .2lbs
Total weight loss: 1.8
Weight left to lose: 28.2

Fatsgiving!

Ugh - having two families (Mine and the hubby's) means having two Thanksgivings. Two turkeys, two giant plates of crazy sides and two nights of going to bed so full it's hard to roll over.

Not that this is a terrible thing - I'm grateful to have lots of love, lots of food and a safe, warm place to sleep, but it's hard to lose weight and eat like this for a whole weekend.

I'm not looking forward to weighing in on Monday, but you know what? I'm going to do it. You can't start a journey without knowing where you are.

Weigh in Monday - 11/22/10

I f%^&*ng gained a pound this week. WTH? This was my most active week to date and one where I ate the least amount of my extra points, which is surprising. I have no idea what's up with this - I usually eat all my extra points, activity points and then some! I kept having to double check to make sure I wasn't cheating somehow...

Anywho, this sucks a bit. I'm not sure if it's the high point days on Saturday and dessert on Sunday, but something isn't right! Back on track for next week I guess - we'll see how the next weigh in goes!

Today's weight loss gain was: 1lb
Total weight loss: 1.6
Weight left to lose: 28.4

Biking and other adventures in exercising

Today I jumped on my bike and headed up to my office, which is about a 25 minute ride. I try to make this ride once a week as part of my exercise and I love that I get both A) cardio and B) the opportunity to be outside for a little bit. It was a beautiful day - warm, sunny and breezy - and I love getting out in the neighborhood on a bike - you get to see your town in such a different way!

Exercise is a hard one for me - I don't really enjoy gyms. If I try to make myself be a gym person, I know it won't last and I'll be back on the couch before I can say "free weight." I'm whiny, bored and too spastic to be able to enjoy an hour at the gym 3 times a week!

So I'm trying to mix it up. Nightclub Cardio on Wedensdays (a dance-type of aerobics class that's really a lot of fun - I was surprised how much I enjoyed it!), the gym on Fridays with Mandy (who is very motivating and has some fresh hell to put me through each week) and once a week on the bike (to work and back - about an hour). I'm slowly adding one more day of either walking or hitting the gym for the treadmill or elliptical, but honestly it depends on the week.

I like the freedom to do different stuff and still have it be healthy, not obsessive trips to the torture palace (aka gym). What about you - are you a gym rat? Do you LOVE Pilates? How do you stay healthy?

Weigh in Monday - 11/15/10

This week was a bit easier than the week before and I'm not sure why. I wasn't as hungry and, even though I had a couple of high point days, I only went over my weekly allowance 1 point and only used 1 of my activity points.

I was active this week, but not by much! I walked with Ruthie on Thursday morning (2 miles!) and started to work out with Mandy on Friday (I'm still sore and it's Monday - daaayymmmnn!)

Today's weight loss was: 1.0
Total weight loss: 2.6

10% shoes

One big part of weight loss is to replace your reward system with something healthier than a bacon cheeseburger, which is why I'm going straight for my other weakness - shoes. I love me some shoes.

When I hit my 5% goal - I'm going to buy myself these Dansko Bobbi Black Milled Nappa Leather Boots for my trip to NYC in December!

Workin' it out!

The last time I worked out with a trainer, I puked. It was a meat headed, young hot shot of a dude who didn't even try to hide his contempt for rounder ladies. He kicked my ass and seemed to mock me in the process. I was doing the "free" session offered at most big gyms and I realized, during his diatribe about how I'm not a committed person because I've been fit before and I'm not now, that this wasn't the place for me. Peace out!

I have stayed out of gyms since last year when I joined one of those "come in anytime you'd like and we'll leave you along gyms." Things were great until they hired a new trainer who was a "hoverer" and wouldn't take "no thanks!" for an answer.

Ever since, I have avoided that gym, and any gym, like the plague. Until today.

Thanks to some random Facebook clicking, I found Mandy at Mod Your Body Fitness, who trains at a gym near my house. Two days later I'm at the gym working out and not feeling like a total jackass, thanks to her gentle methods and encouragement! Also, no puking, which is pretty awesome.

So now I'm going to add a once a week 1/2 hour training session with Mandy to my fitness regimen. Before I know it, I'll be stronger, fitter and looking hot in shorts - win!

Sonic and my weakness for gigantic hamburgers!

Grumble Buns from Etsy seller SteffBomb
Last time I was on Weight Watchers my thoughts on Sonic were as follows: Damn you hamburgers. And damn your friends the Cherry Limeade and fries! You are so delicious, yet so many points!

This time I'm trying to be a bit more pragmatic when it comes to the deliciousness that is the #1 combo at Sonic and less emotional about the food I consume.

It's ok to have a hamburger now and again, and wash it down with a Cherry Limeade, but it's not ok to do every day. Yes, it is 15 points just for the burger and 4 for the CL, but if I budget and eat a good breakfast/dinner I'll be fine.

Breaking things down into a series of decisions and moving forward rationally really helps me - it turns weight loss into a conscious choice rather than a rip tide of feelings that might maroon me on fat island.

Huuunnggrryy!

This commercial is too true - when I'm hungry (or hangry, a mix of hungry and angry, as my husband calls it), I'm going to eat anything in sight.

Yesterday we waited until 8 p.m. to eat dinner (my body read that as 9 p.m. because of the recent time change) and I was proud that all I put down at dinner was a little bit of bread, a salad, 4 oz of filet mignon (I'm all class people) and steamed broccoli. A decent dinner, but totally within my Points range for the day - yessss!

It's like I drop kicked this little orange f*&ker right in the face - take that adorable temptation!

Weight in Monday - 11/8/2010

I managed to track all week and, with activity points, made it without going over on my flex points this week!
This week I tracked all week long, which was good because I needed to be more conscious of what I'm putting in my body and how much I'm exercising in relation to the food. I did have a McRib this week (welcome back old friend), but also managed to eat pretty darn healthfully (big ups to sushi twice this week). If I can keep this up, I'll stay on track for reaching my goal weight by my 30th birthday in March!

Dessert - it's not just for fatties anymore!

One of the coolest things about Weight Watchers is the selection of dessert recipes that are both easy and low in points - here's one of my favorites!

Angel Food Cake with Berries and Greek Yogurt

Ingredients:
Store bought angel food cake
Strawberries
Blueberries
Raspberries
Low fat Greek yogurt

Slice the cake and cut in half. Top the bottom half with with a dollop of greek yogurt and a sprinkling of berries. Replace the "lid."
3 points per serving.

Welcome to the Jiggle

I jiggle when I walk. It started as a sexy, "Wooo hoo look at that!" kinda jiggle and then, well, my metabolism stopped fighting off McRibs and BAM! I'm chunky.

Loving your body is awesome - and I do love mine, but I want to be healthy. Heart disease and diabetes run in my family and I want to curtail my bad habits early to get control of my health.

Through a commitment to try Weight Watchers for a year and by exercising, I will lose 30 pounds by the end of 2011 and enjoy every bit of it. Watch me prove it!
